The Mitsubishi outlander PHEV has left its trace on the market and actually redefined the way consumers think about compact SUVs ever since it was launched. When the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV came onto the market a few years ago, there simply weren’t any alternatives at an affordable price point for a plug-in hybrid SUV. You could get a PHEV powertrain in an SUV, but you had to opt for a very expensive Porsche or Audi model.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV proves that you didn’t have to empty your bank account to enjoy versatility paired with efficiency. Today, the 2020 Outlander PHEV continues as the only plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle in its segment. It still happens to be one of the most spacious SUVs in its class despite the need for the hybrid system’s batteries, and is also one of the most fun to drive compact SUVs thanks to the performance of the hybrid engine.
Powering the Mitsubishi Outlander is a combination of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 117 horsepower, and a 60-kW electric motor that also adds 144 pound-feet of torque. Total power output is rated at 200 hp but the most important part is the 12-kWh lithium ion battery. This battery provides 35 km of range which means that most buyers will be able to do their daily commutes without ever needing a single drop of fuel. The battery can be recharged in 3.5 hours using a 240V outlet. Charge the Outlander PHEV in the evening, and in the morning, you can go to work without having to worry how much fuel you have in the tank.
You get all of this while also enjoying 860 litres of cargo space with all seats in place. As mentioned, the Outlander PHEV does not require you to change your lifestyle or compromise on interior space.
